How to Cook Dried Beans – Soaking over night.

The method you probably have heard the most is soaking, the reason why it’s the most used is because the texture of the beans (if done right) should be creamy inside, so if you prefer a creamy texture for your bean then read on and learn how to make them!

  • Rinse the beans  under the water and run your fingers threw the beans and clean them the best you can. Removing any withered, broken or discolored beans or any pebbles.
  • Soak the beans in water about 5 inches above the beans and let soak over night for up to 6-12 hours. Any longer than 12 hours the beans will turn to mush and taste kinda bland.
  • The next day you will see that your little beans are nice and plump, check to see if your beans still have about 3-4 inches of water if not dump some out if it’s to much or pour some in if to little.
  • Start off your beans on high heat till the water starts to simmer then medium heat covered
  • While the beans start to simmer, add to the water salt, pepper, minced garlic, minced onion, cilantro, a couple strips of bacon.
  • Check the beans every 15-20 minutes.
  • Pull out one bean and give it a little taste or try to mash with a fork, you should feel no crunch in the beans, if you feel no crunch your beans are done!how to cook black beans
